From ESEI Graduate to Sports Innovator: The Inspiring Journey of Malek Mansour

  • Posted by Esei
  • Date 15 de April de 2025

And Why Barcelona is an Ideal City to Grow Your Sports Career

In the bustling city of Barcelona, where sports are a way of life, Malek Mansour is carving a path that blends passion and innovation. As an alumnus of the ESEI Business School, Malek has transitioned from a student of sports management to a dynamic force within the industry. His story is not just one of personal achievement but of community building and inspiring the next generation to explore careers in sports.

Malek’s transformative journey began at ESEI Business School, a renowned institution for business education in Spain. Enrolling in the Master in Sports Management Programme, he was keen to immerse himself in the principles of sports business, ethics, and law. The programme offered more than academic learning; it was an international experience that broadened his horizons. “ESEI equips students with a comprehensive understanding of how to manage a business in sports,” he recounts. During his studies, Malek not only honed his skills but also met individuals who shared his enthusiasm for sports, including his future partner in both life and business.

Studying in Barcelona, Malek found himself in a city where the passion for sports is palpable. The vibrant sports culture of Barcelona served as a perfect backdrop for his aspirations. The city is a milieu where opportunities in sports are as prevalent as its historic landmarks. “Barcelona is not just a city; it’s a sports hub in Europe and globally,” Malek asserts.

Here, he saw potential not only in traditional sports like football but also in emerging trends like paddle—a sport rapidly gaining popularity. Inspired by this culture, Malek co-founded Premier Paddle BCN just outside the city, offering a luxury paddle experience complete with courts, a gym, and a café.

“ So you can come in, have some lunch, play some paddle, meet some coaches, meet some friends, go to the gym.  We’re happy to open our doors to all of the ESEI students, alumni, and staff to come and join us,” Malek notes.

The Barcelona Advantage for Sports Careers

Malek’s drive for studying in Barcelona isn’t just about its sports culture; it’s about its strategic advantage for aspiring sports professionals. The city’s infrastructure, renowned sports events, and thriving community make it an ideal location for launching a sports career. Whether it’s attending a thrilling FC Barcelona match or visiting the Olympic Stadium, the opportunities are endless. “The city offers a fertile ground for sports careers, with every corner brimming with possibility,” he shares.

5 Reasons Why Barcelona is an Ideal to Grow Your Sports Career

  1. Strong Sports Tradition and Infrastructure

Barcelona has a long-standing sports tradition, highlighted by its successful hosting of the 1992 Olympic Games, which transformed the city into a global sports hub. The city boasts world-class facilities such as the Camp Nou stadium (currently under renovation and scheduled to reopen in June 2026), Montjuïc Olympic Stadium, Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, and the High Performance Centre (CAR). These venues support a wide range of sports, from football and motorsports to athletics and swimming, offering professionals ample opportunities to develop their careers.

  1. Home to Globally Renowned Sports Institutions

Barcelona is home to iconic sports organizations like FC Barcelona, one of the most famous football clubs in the world. The club’s academy, La Masia, is recognized for developing top-tier talent. Additionally, other institutions such as MARCET Football School and Kaptiva Sports Academy provide training and career opportunities for aspiring athletes and coaches. The city’s reputation as a sports powerhouse attracts global talent and fosters professional growth.

  1. Thriving Sports Business Ecosystem

The city has a robust sports industry cluster supported by initiatives like the Barcelona Sports Hub. This platform connects startups, investors, and companies in the sports sector, promoting innovation and entrepreneurship. There’s also INDESCAT, the Catalan sports industry cluster, of which ESEI is a proud partner. Professionals can benefit from access to networking events, mentoring programmes, and opportunities to test new technologies in sports settings. This ecosystem makes Barcelona a leader in sports tech and business innovation.

  1. International Sporting Events Calendar

Barcelona hosts numerous prestigious international sporting events annually, including the Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix, MotoGP races, the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell tennis tournament, and stages of the Vuelta Ciclista a España. These events not only showcase top-level competition but also create job opportunities in event management, marketing, media, and logistics.

  1. Passionate Sports Culture

Sports are deeply embedded in Barcelona’s culture. Approximately 66.7% of its residents regularly engage in physical activities—17.4% above the European average—demonstrating widespread enthusiasm for sport at all levels. This vibrant culture fosters demand for professionals in coaching, fitness training, sports science, and community engagement roles.

Building a Vision with ESEI Students

Beyond his ventures, Malek is deeply committed to nurturing new talents. His partnership with ESEI reflects this dedication, as he collaborates with the school to foster sports involvement among students.

“Our goal is to develop the sporting aspect of  the university. Through Unifit (the ESEI Community app) or small groups in which we can encourage students to get involved in sport. Not just to play sports, but to get involved. Learn how to become an agent, how to become a sports lawyer, how to become a sports coach, for instance,” he elaborates.

Through these initiatives, Malek hopes to inspire students to see sports as a powerful unifying force, encouraging them to integrate it into their lives and careers.

“My partnership with ESEI aims to not only promote sports but to instill an entrepreneurial mindset among students,” Malek adds. His involvement extends to supporting sporting events and workshops organized by the school where students can learn firsthand about the business of sports.

For Aspiring Sports Enthusiasts

For those aspiring to follow in his footsteps, Malek offers valuable advice: don’t let doubt hold you back. “My best advice, whether in business or life, is to not overthink. People often hesitate, but it’s essential to pursue what you love,” Malek advises. He speaks from experience, having transitioned his dream of becoming a football player into a fulfilling career in sports management and agency.

Reflecting on his educational journey, Malek acknowledges the pivotal role ESEI played in his success. The Master in Sports Management Programme equipped him with vital skills and insights that he applies in his business today. The school’s international focus and emphasis on business studies prepared Malek not just for a career but for leadership within the sports industry.

Malek Mansour’s journey is a testament to the transformative power of sports education and the opportunities it can unlock. His story, from an enthusiastic student at an international business school to a force in sports, exemplifies the impact of determination and strategic learning. Studying abroad in a city like Barcelona, where potential meets passion, offers an unparalleled foundation for those looking to break into sports careers.

Through Malek’s experiences, it’s evident that ESEI’s Master in Sports Management Programme doesn’t just prepare students for the industry; it molds innovators ready to embrace global opportunities. For aspiring professionals, embracing a creative spirit and taking bold steps towards their dreams will lead to remarkable journeys in sports. As Malek’s story continues to inspire, it highlights the benefits of international education in business studies and the vibrant opportunities available at a business school in Spain.

Aspiring sports professionals are encouraged to start their journey at ESEI, where they can build the skills necessary to become significant contributors to the world of sports. Whether it’s managing a team, becoming a sports lawyer, or innovating in sport-related entrepreneurship, the possibilities are vast and waiting to be explored.
