ESEI in Jakarta for the 2016 Youth Time Global Forum

From the 23rd to the 27th November, ESEI took part in the Youth Time global forum on sustainability; this year taking place in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Youth Time is a burgeoning movement, with which we first came into contact in 2015, where ESEI Academic Manager gave a keynote speech on the future of higher education. This year, Mark travelled to Jakarta to represent ESEI once again, though this year ESEI became a full partner and sponsor of the event; recognising the valuable work carried out by this fast-growing NGO.

The event takes place over a number of days, with a mixture of social and educational events. A lot of time is spent building relationships, as people from all over the world come together to share and test ideas. We met like-minded people from Kabul to Khatmandu and opened ourselves to new ideas through discussions and workshops.

One of the workshops offered by ESEI Barcelona was “ethical decision-making for a sustainble  world”. What was originally intended to be a 2-hour session on the psychology of ethical decision-  making and it´s impact on CSR, corporate governance and sustainability, turned into a longer  session as participants engaged in discussion and reflected on their own countries and contexts  long after the time was up.

The main event, however, was the project presentations. After an extensive process, the final  participants, primarily from non-wester countries,  had been chosen to present their projects to  the panel. The winners would receive funding for their project, plus other prizes from the event  sponsors.

Participants had previously received training and feedback from Mark at ESEI on the delivery of  their presentations, and they did a fantastic job when their moment came.

The first prize winner, Olga Lakhnova from Russia received a grant of 7000 EUR for the project and a fully funded scholarship at ESEI. Her project ‘Senior to Junior / Fight isolation of elderly by educating young’ was the chosen project of the year.
